Ice Skating Opens for Season

The Ice Skating Rink at the Mountain Park is open for the season!  Glide the day away on Garrett County's only Ice Rink.  Our mini-Zamboni® is fun to watch as it polishes the ice surface to keep it nice and smooth.

90-minute Skating Session w/ Skate Rental - $14
Family Skate Package - $39
(includes 90-minute skate session with rental for 2 adults & 2 children under 12)

We've had some famous skates grace the Ice Rink at the Mountain Park.  Former left-wing and current sportscaster for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Bob Errey, has shaved some ice on our rink.  Can you spot him in any of the photos below?

Be sure to check the hours of operation prior to your visit.

Ready. Set. Make Snow!

Wisp's Mountain Ops Crew is getting in position to turn on the snow guns this evening, Sunday, November 19.  After watching buckets of rain spill over Garrett County yesterday, the sun rose today with a dusting of snow and much colder temps.  It has continued to flurry throughout the day with gusty winds not really allowing for any real accumulation.

With most of the snowmaking efforts focused on the front side, you'll be able to watch the action with our webcam.

Let Winter Begin!

Update - Monday morning, November 20

We've got guns blazing on:

  • Sunset Blvd
  • Central Park
  • Squirrel Cage
  • Upper Grouse
  • Wisp Trail
  • Wisp Kids Learning Yard
  • Snow Tubing Park

Update - Monday afternoon, November 20

With temps creeping into the low to mid-30s, the snow guns shut down about 1pm allowing for approximately 12 hours of snowmaking.  Just under 1 million gallons of water was pumped through the system totaling about 7 acre feet of snow on the areas listed above.

Headliner Comic - Jay Stevens

Jay Stevens has been doing comedy for more than a decade.  He's also been digitally entertaining audiences with his hilarious skits and commercial reenactments.  Jay's life changed drastically when a video sketch of Stevens getting into a humorous altercation with a police officer, in which Stevens places himself in a police cruiser of an overly intimidating officer, went viral after amassing over 30 million views in just one week!  Jay's "Life Is Hilarious" Tour has been selling out all over the country, leaving audiences in stitches. Stevens has the uncanny ability to point out how funny life really is. From standup to sketch comedy, Jay Stevens is a comic you don't want to miss!

Feature Comic - Jamie Utley

Jamie made his professional debut in 2008 at Bear’s Place in Bloomington, IN and has since performed up and down the east from Florida to Indiana in places like Monkey Wrench(KY), Funnybone(WV & OH), and Cozzy's(VA).

Another Dusting and Winter Prep Continues

The expected cold weather did indeed arrive with a dusting of snow this morning, Friday, November 10.

The Big Question - Making Snow?

With such a small window and changing winds in this cold snap, it's just too short of a period for us to lay down anything that's going to stick around.  With warm weather and precipitation forecasted in the next few days, we are looking for a bigger window to work with for snowmaking.

Winter Preparations Continue

With over $600,000 invested on the hill this past summer, most of that is underground so you won't be able to see the improvements until we fire up the snowmaking system.  None the less, here's a list of all the hard work our Mountain Ops Crew did:

  • Over 1,300’ of snowmaking pipe replaced throughout the mountain
  • 11 lateral pipes totaling 200’
  • 17 plug-in and safety disconnect boxes
  • New motor control drive installed on low side snowmaking system on pump #1
  • New flow meter was installed down at the lake to better monitor water usage

  • Chair #1 – new gear box installed in the main lift drive
  • Chair #2 & #3 had all terminals cleared of rust, primed and painted including all lift structures, motor rooms and control shacks
  • Chair #4 – top return bull wheel was taken down to the ground, NDT inspected and new bearings installed
  • Chair #6 & #7 had motors removed, serviced by motor service company and reinstalled
  • Chair #7 had main haul cable shortened and re-spliced

3,240’ feet of electrical wires that provided power to various lifts and snowmaking operations was replaced and armored.

Our Team is just as anxious as all you skiers and snowboarders to flip the switch and start cranking out the snow!  Bring on Winter!
