What to wear?
Wearing the right gear can make all the difference. We recommend dressing in layers - base, mid and outer. Base and mid layers should be breathable moisture-wicking material while it's helpful if the outer layer is breathable and waterproof. One, we repeat, one pair of synthetic socks is best. Waterproof gloves or mittens are ideal and don't worry about a hat, we are providing a helmet with your equipment rental. Goggles or sunglasses are recommended, depending on the weather. You can view our Daily Mountain Report here.
In the market for new gear or forgot something? No worries! Outdoor Elements located on the lower level of the McHenry Lodge can outfit you with all of the ski and ride essentials.
Where to go & What to do?
Arrive at Sundown Village located at the base of the mountain behind The Lodge at Wisp between the hours of 9:00am to 3:00pm on the day of your reservation. There is a parking lot there and if it is full, you can use the overflow of the hotel parking so you are close to The Learning Center. Go into The Learning Center, Yurt (H) Himalayan, to begin your check-in.
First, complete a Rental Release Form before getting in line or visiting the cashier. One per person. This will need to be done each day you receive rental equipment.
Next, visit the cashier with your online confirmation (printed or mobile). Your reservation will be recalled and processed. Be sure to indicate whether you are learning to ski or snowboard. IMPORTANT: a locker can be rented at this time to stow your shoes, bag, hat, etc while you are on the snow otherwise, you'll need to walk it out to your car.
Next, you will transition into the Rental Yurts where you will be outfitted with boots then the proper skis/poles or snowboard setup.
Now the fun begins! You'll venture out on to the snow to meet your instructor. You will be taught a beginner ski or snowboard lesson.
After your lesson, you can continue to ski or snowboard for the day by upgrading to a $14 lift ticket and equipment rental package. The upgrade ticket does allow full mountain access if you are ready for loading lifts and more advanced terrain. Simply go into The Learning Center to purchase your 3-Free-Learn-to Ticket/Rental upgrade. Your 'Sunset Carpets Access Only' ticket will be removed and you will be sold the upgrade package.
